The Building of New Delhi
SUJÁN Enterprises plays a significant role in setting up the Coronation Durbar of King George V and Queen Mary in Delhi, laying the foundation stone for the new capital of India, and is entrusted to construct the lion’s share of the new capital.
1947
India Obtains Independence
India gained independence on August 15, 1947, a pivotal moment in global history. The family reaffirmed its deep dedication to the new republic, continuing its legacy of nation-building, culture, and environmental guardianship.
1972
The Wildlife Protection Act is Enacted
The historic ban on the shooting of wild animals in India took effect with the landmark Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, providing crucial legal safeguards to ensure the ecological security of the country's endangered flora and fauna.
1973
The Journey to Jaisalmer
Jaisal's parents, Tejbir and Malvika, first travelled to Jaisalmer to film their documentary “The City that Jaisal Built”, introducing the world to the medieval desert city. “The Nomads of Rajasthan” followed, celebrating the Manganiars and Kalbelias and documenting their ancient songs and traditions.
1974
Tejbir & Malvika First Travel to Ranthambhore
Guided by the dim flicker of a paraffin lantern at the ancient Mughal ruin of Jogi Mahal, they were welcomed by legendary warden Fateh Singh Rathore. Pitching their tent under Jogi Mahal’s famous Banyan tree against towering ramparts, they awoke the next morning to find the fresh pug marks of a wild tiger surrounding their tent!
1975
The ‘Jungles of Rajasthan’ Film is Released
Tejbir and Malvika ran their own film workshop travelling across Rajasthan. This pioneering documentary was among the very first by an Indian film crew to record India’s wildlife and the Ranthambhore tigers on camera in their wild habitat.
1979
Jaisal's First Visit to Ranthambhore
In the winter of 1979, Jaisal was first carried to Ranthambhore aged just eight weeks old. Although he does not remember that first visit, he saw his first wild tiger then — beginning a lifelong devotion to the species.
1980
Ranthambhore Elevated to National Park Status
First established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in 1955 and incorporated into Project Tiger in 1973, Ranthambhore was formally elevated to National Park status on November 1, 1980.
1985
Jaisal Learns the Way of the Jungle
While Tejbir and Malvika documented wild tigers hunting in lake water, Jaisal grew up under the shade of Jogi Mahal's banyan tree. The scents and calls of the forest became second nature, and he began reading trails and pugmarks with master trackers.
1988
The Ranthambhore Foundation is Founded
Spearheaded by Valmik Thapar with Tejbir and Malvika Singh, The Ranthambhore Foundation was created to pioneer 'community conservation' — proving that protecting wild tigers depends directly upon empowering local villages.
2000
SUJÁN Sher Bagh Opens
Jaisal and Anjali Singh established SUJÁN Sher Bagh with 12 handcrafted canvas tents on the periphery of Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve. Within twelve months, Sher Bagh was ranked among the 'Top 100 Hotels in the World' by Tatler Magazine and won the Silver Otter Award from the British Guild of Travel Writers.
2008
SUJÁN Sher Bagh Joins Relais & Châteaux
SUJÁN Sher Bagh became the first tented camp in India invited to join the prestigious international Relais & Châteaux association, celebrating culinary excellence, authentic local character, and conservation ethics.
2009
SUJÁN The Serai Opens in the Thar Desert
Forty years after the family first filmed in Jaisalmer, Jaisal & Anjali raised SUJÁN The Serai across 100 acres of desert scrub. Celebrating desert oasis heritage and local music traditions, it became an instant international icon.
2012
The Next Generation are Born
Anjali & Jaisal welcomed twins Sujan & Amrit. Carrying forward family tradition, both were brought to Ranthambhore aged eight weeks, growing up on safari across India and Africa.
2013
The Launch of SUJÁN JAWAI
Pioneering a revolutionary conservation-tourism model, SUJÁN JAWAI opened in December 2013 among granite kopjes, proving that wild leopards and Rabari pastoralists can live together in harmony with zero poaching.
2021
Jaisal Champions Conservation at Government Level
Jaisal Singh is appointed to the Government of Rajasthan’s Standing Committee for Wildlife and State Board for Wildlife, chaired by the Chief Minister, as well as the Expert Committee on Tigers and Punjab State Board for Wildlife.
2025
Remembering Valmik Thapar
India’s most legendary tiger conservationist and author, Valmik Thapar (Jaisal’s maternal uncle), passed away after a brave fight against cancer, leaving behind an extraordinary global legacy of wilderness protection.
2026
Chiawa Safaris Joins SUJÁN in Zambia
In a historic expansion, SUJÁN completed the acquisition of Chiawa Safaris in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park, welcoming the legendary Chiawa Camp and Old Mondoro into the SUJÁN family.
